The Great Debate: Binary or Generation?
Choosing an MLM company often comes down to understanding how they pay. The two dominant structures in the industry are Binary and Generation (Unilevel) plans. But which one is actually better?
The Binary Plan (Left & Right)
In a Binary plan, you only have two legs: a Left leg and a Right leg. Any new person you sponsor must be placed under one of these two legs.
- Pros: Fosters teamwork through "spillover" (when your upline places someone under you). Very fast payouts and perceived quick growth.
- Cons: Often requires regular capping and flushing to remain financially stable. It is easy for one leg to grow massive while the other struggles, leading to zero payouts (you are paid on the weaker leg).
The Generation/Unilevel Plan (Unlimited Width)
In a Generation plan, you can sponsor unlimited people directly on your frontline. Income is based on the differential volume between your level and your downline's level.
- Pros: Highly stable and sustainable for the long term. Usually associated with actual product sales rather than recruitment fees. No volume flushing.
- Cons: Slower initial growth. You must balance both width (frontline) and depth to maximize the compensation plan.
The Verdict
Historically, Binary plans are preferred by crypto, investment, or short-term digital product companies because of rapid expansion. Generation plans are preferred by established FMCG and wellness companies focusing on long-term product consumption. Your choice depends on whether you want fast cash or long-term residual income.
